The true wealth of any nation has always been its people. We have lost this knowledge in our pursuit of the "American Dream" We have been ceaselessly exposed to phrases like "standard of living"; "inflation"; "cost of living"; "the value of a dollar"; "the economy" or "working for a living." We have been bombarded with advertisements for years telling us to "buy this or that to feel better, look better, be better" - words that have taken us farther and farther away from recognizing that the real worth of a nation is "life" itself.

We have gone from investing in ourselves to investing in money. Money should not be the "end-all" to living nor used to value life; but, instead, should be a "tool" that is used to trade value for value. Why is more value placed on an individual's occupation, rather than the "life" of the person? If no monetary system were in place, would recognition be given to the contribution of the farmer or mechanic or teacher or parent as being equal?

The value of a dollar has power because we "give" it an importance it does not deserve. We started giving away our freedoms when we gave more importance to money rather than life itself. Many talk about the devaluation of the American dollar and suggest changing the monetary system using gold to value the dollar. However, I would argue that changing the "value" of the dollar to any item that is valued more than life itself is not the answer.

Life IS the value by which all other things should be measured. The trick is to "use" the monetary system; not be lead by it. When all decisions are based on the value of life; we are as a people and a nation are richer for it. The powers that control our monetary system control us because we let them. These "powers that be" are not afraid of changing the money system to other coin; they are afraid that WE WILL change the value we place on the money system. They ARE AFRAID we will finally unite with this knowledge.

I personally believe that is why there are so many factions and religions, so we will not unite under one common bond. But our religious beliefs nor the color of our skins should not bely the importance of this message -make life itself the arbitrator of our net worth. And therein lies the rub; are we willing to unite for ourselves? Are we willing to change what we value? When we change our values to fight for "life" itself, then and only then will our world be different.
